The Jeremy Vine Show has sparked Ofcom complaints following a vaccine debate involving Beverley Turner.

Beverley made clear her children wouldn’t be having the jab and called the rollout a ‘trial’ during an appearance on the Channel 5 show.

According to Ofcom’s latest audience complaints report, the show on June 14 resulted in 125 complaints from viewers relating to the debate.

On the NHS website, it stresses that the vaccine is ‘safe and effective’ and that ‘it gives you the best protection against Covid-19’.

The vaccines approved for use in the UK have met strict standards of safety, quality and effectiveness set out by the independent Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).

Any coronavirus vaccine that is approved must go through all the clinical trials and safety checks all other licensed medicines go through. The MHRA follows international standards of safety.

Speaking on the show, Beverley said: ‘Less than one per cent of deaths are down to Covid-19. This has to be taken on a decision-by-decision basis because this is a clinical trial until 2023.

‘We do not know the long-term effects of this vaccine for any individual. I do not judge any adult who wanted to take it. If they felt like it was informed consent I do not judge you.’

The heated debate also saw fellow guest Angela Epstein said: ‘Vaccine refusers are selfish, morally repugnant, irresponsible people who are enjoying their freedom because the rest of us are being vaccinated.

‘Who are the people in hospital? The people who haven’t been vaccinated.’

Channel 5 declined to comment when contacted by Metro.co.uk.

It’s not the first time Beverley’s comments have sparked controversy.

This Morning was hit with Ofcom complaints after Beverley voiced concerns over the coronavirus vaccine and argued it’s not effective earlier this month.

The Jeremy Wright Show airs on weekdays at 9.15am on Channel 5.
