Who is John Cena? Everything to know about the new Fast & Furious bad guy
Fast and Furious 9 is set to land in cinemas next week, with the gang reuniting to settle old scores – with some newbies getting in on the action.
WWE legend John Cena has joined the star-studded cast for the latest instalment, and will be playing the estranged brother of Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel).
He is starring as Jakob Toretto alongside Cardi B, Ludacris, Charlize Theron and Michelle Rodriguez in the upcoming flick.
The film marks his debut in the action franchise, but he’s no stranger to the big screen – having previously appeared in Blockers, The Marine and Daddy’s Home.
But what else do we need to know about the newcomer to the F&F family?
Who is John Cena?
John Cena came to fame in 1999, training for his career as a professional wrestler at Ultimate Pro Wrestling, where he wrestled for two years. He made his unofficial debut for WWE (then branded as WWF) in 2000, before being called up 2002.
Unsurprisingly, he became a firm fan favourite, and made many appearances in the ring throughout his impressive WWE career – winning his first world championship at WrestleMania soon after.
He has gone up against some of the biggest names in the sport, including the Undertaker, Triple H and The Rock, but hasn’t taken part in a fight in months.
However, John hasn’t turned his back on the spotlight – and has become a fixture in Hollywood over the last few months.

John has become a staple of the big screen since his first film, The Marine, which was released in 2006. Since then, he has showed just how talented he is, popping up in action movies, comedies and the odd children’s film.
His CV includes credits in Daddy’s Home and the sequel, Daddy’s Home 2, alongside Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg, as well as Sisters, Trainwreck and Transformers prequel, Bumblebee.
John will next be appearing in F9 as Jakob, and has also been cast in the upcoming Suicide Squad.

John has conquered the world of WWE, become a successful actor and is also fluent in Mandarin – proving there is absolutely nothing he can’t do.
The actor briefly moved to China in a bid to help WWE expand their reach – and showed off his skills in videos posted on Chinese social media network Weibo.
John also used his language skills to apologise to Chinese fans after calling Taiwan a country, during press for F9.
The actor came under fire after saying Taiwan would be the first ‘country’ able to watch the film, and was forced to issue an apology over the slip-up.
‘I made one mistake. I have to say something very, very, very important now. I love and respect China and Chinese people,’ the star said in Mandarin.
‘I’m very, very sorry about my mistake. I apologise, I apologise, I’m very sorry. You must understand that I really love, really respect China and the Chinese people. My apologies. See you.’
Fast and Furious 9 is released in UK cinemas on June 24.
