Foo Fighters become Dee Gees for disco album of Bee Gees covers
In a case of unexpected music news, the Foo Fighters have become the Dee Gees for their upcoming Bee Gees cover album.
The iconic rock band have announced details for their new record, Hail Satan, which will see them explore a disco sound and cover four classic Bee Gees tracks – Night Fever, Tragedy, You Should Be Dancing and More Than A Woman.
The group – consisting of Dave Grohl, Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Taylor Hawkins, Chris Shiflett and Rami Jaffee – will also perform their own rendition of Andy Gibb’s single Shadow Dancing.
Pop music lovers will no doubt be familiar with Steps’ version of Tragedy, which was a UK number one hit in 1998, so we are pretty curious to hear the Foo Fighters’ take on the song.
The new album is set for release on US Record Store Day on July 17, and will be available in the vinyl format. The record will be only be available for a limited time, with 12,000 copies pressed.
While side one of the release will include the Bee Gees covers, side two will feature five live versions of songs taken from the Foo Fighters’ most recent effort, Medicine At Midnight, which was released in February.
The band took to social media to announce the news, sharing a video which features lead singer Dave attempting his best falsetto vocal performance, akin to Bee Gees member Barry Gibb.
The members had previously covered You Should Be Dancing for Jo Whiley’s Sofa Session on Radio 2 back in February, and had revealed they chose the song after discussing a recent Bee Gees documentary.
Dave explained: ‘I was like, “Why don’t we just do a Bee Gees song?” And someone was just like, “OK, how do you wanna do it?” And I said, “Well, let’s do it like the Bee Gees.”’
He added he had ‘never ever in my life sung like that’, but he also believes it was the ‘easiest song I have ever sung in my entire life’.
Hail Satan, the latest album from the Foo Fighters (as the Dee Gees) will be available on vinyl on July 17.
