It has been announced that money saving expert Martin Lewis is to step into Piers Morgan’s shoes on Good Morning Britain, following the broadcaster’s dramatic departure from the ITV programme.

While viewers may often turn to Martin for guidance on mortgages or their savings, he is soon set to follow in the footsteps of several other presenters by joining Susanna Reid on GMB.

Susanna has had a spate of guest co-hosts on GMB since Piers’ exit, which occurred in March after tens of thousands of people complained about his remarks on Meghan Markle’s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Martin said he feels ‘stoked’ to be taking on the new position, which he will do so at the end of June.

So is Martin Lewis replacing Piers on GMB full-time?

In the statement released by GMB on Twitter, it described Martin as ‘the most trusted man in Britain’, outlining that he will join Susanna on the show from Monday June 28 to Wednesday June 30.

The financial expert tweeted that while he has ‘loved answering questions’ on the programme for 15 years, he’s ‘now stoked I get a chance’ to turn the tables on other interviewees on topics including ‘key consumer issues’, in addition to ‘holding power to account on all issues’.

In a follow-up tweet, Martin shot down rumours that he might be joining GMB on a permanent basis.

‘I’m excited & honoured to be a GUEST presenter, but definitely NOT looking for a longer stint or full time job,’ he said.

He explained that he has enough on his plate as it is, adding: ‘I’ve other key commitments, never mind I like m’sleep too much.’

Has an official replacement for Piers Morgan been decided?

An official replacement for Piers Morgan has not yet been announced.

Nonetheless, that hasn’t stopped people from speculating over who it could be.

Several different names have been thrown into the mix according to bookmakers, including Ranvir Singh, Ben Shepherd and Alex Beresford.

A number of TV presenters have stepped in to co-host GMB in Piers’ absence, including Richard Madeley, Adil Ray, Ranvir, Kate Garraway and Alastair Campbell.

There has been some speculation that Susanna may be joined by a permanent female co-host, with Susanna taking the lead as the main presenter.

Some GMB viewers are hoping This Morning star Holly Willoughby may take over the role.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
