A poor person who walked in front of the cameras today was mistaken for a walrus – one of the largest animals on the planet – by an unshakable Naga Munchetty on today’s BBC Breakfast.

There was absolutely no convincing Naga that the human being was anything other than the giant creature, despite her co-host Charlie Stayt’s best efforts.

The pandemonium came as the pair shared a clip of Wally the walrus, a local celebrity in the Isles of Scilly who returned to the English coast for a little staycation.

As Wally jumped out of the water to say hello to some of the locals, Naga was convinced she saw another walrus.

‘Wally is safe, he seems friendly. Did you see? I’m sure there was a little walrus at the end going past the camera. Can we rewind? I think I saw one,’ she said.

Only getting more excited by her finding, she doubled doubled down.

‘There’s Wally trying to get on the boat, just wait for it – there!’ she enthused.

Speaking for all of us, Charlie stressed: ‘No, that’s a persons head.’

When Naga wasn’t listening, he insisted: ‘No really, we can show this many, many times – that’s definitely someone’s head with hair.

‘That’s not a walrus.’

Naga was so adamant she saw another walrus, BBC Breakfast had no other option than to run a poll – walrus or no walrus?

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC One.
