Simon McCoy has made a plea to GB News critics after the channel has been ruthlessly mocked for a series of substantial blunders in its opening week.

From glaring typos to noise and sound complaints and being tricked into reading comments from the likes of Mike Hunt and Mike Oxlong, GB News’ launch hasn’t quite gone to plan.

In turn, the broadcaster has been recognised more for its comical errors than any of its content.

Simon, however, who quit BBC News to join the channel, has asked viewers to give GB News a chance because it’s a start-up – with multimillion pound funding and a team of journalists with decades of experience in the industry.

Addressing the backlash on Twitter, he told his followers: ’Hey. Please judge us in six months. The audience is there – and is supportive.

We are improving every day. It’s a start-up. Thank you for your patience. If you don’t want to watch.. don’t. Sticks and stones.’

The post got a mixed reaction, unsurprisingly.

‘Yeah it might be classed as a ‘start up’ but it’s a multi million pound operation shilling conspiracy theories and dog whistle politics,’ wrote one follower. ‘Thought you of all people were better than that. If  @GBNEWS wants to throw garbage out there, people have a right to throw it back.’

Anoher agreed: ‘I mean, it’s hard not to improve… how have so many proper journalists been conned into joining this utter shambles?!!

‘I can understand the likes of Fox and others of his ilk, but I though you were better than this.’

However, someone else noted ‘When Sky was first up and running, there were huge tech issues.’

While one more said: ‘Even after 5 days the content of the channel has been brilliant and so refreshing to see. GB News is building up a huge extremely loyal following which will back it.

‘The technical problems are reducing, wont be much longer before things are much smoother. its content that matters.’

GB News is available to watch on Sky, Virgin, Freeview and online.
