WWE has taken a major Hell In A Cell match off Sunday’s show and moved it to tonight’s episode of SmackDown.

Roman Reigns and Rey Mysterio were sat to do battle inside the intimidating structure at this weekend’s pay-per-view, but a bizarre series of tweets has resulted in the highly anticipated bout being shifted off the card.

On Thursday night, the legendary masked wrestler – who has, along with his son Dominik, been battered by the Tribal Chief over the past few weeks – tweeted: ‘It’s eating me up inside.

‘I can’t wait any longer. I want the Hell In A Cell match tomorrow night.’

The Universal Champion was quick to respond, and he insisted the timing of the clash ‘makes no difference’.

Roman wrote: ‘Sunday. Friday. Any day. Makes no difference to me. It’ll be my pleasure to disgrace what’s left of your family name tomorrow night inside Hell in a Cell!

‘My Special Counsel @HeymanHustle will handle the paperwork. I’ll PERSONALLY handle the warfare! (sic)’

The match is now official, and it will be the first time ever a Hell In A Cell match has been held on SmackDown.

Fans have been taken aback by the change, with Mysterio vs. Reigns being one of this Sunday’s most anticipated clashes.

It’s not clear exactly why WWE decided to switch things up and move the bout to tonight, but there are any number of possibilities to use it to keep the storyline going into the pay-per-view itself.

Roman’s cousins Jimmy and Jey Uso and Rey’s son Dominik all factor into this storyline, so there could still be scope for a Hell In A Cell match involving any number of them this weekend.

As it currently stands, there are just four matches confirmed for the show, with only one set to take place inside the structure.

Bobby Lashley will put his WWE Championship on the line against Drew McIntyre inside the cell, but the Scotsman has plenty to lose here too.

He won’t be allowed to challenge for the title again as long as the All Mighty holds it if he fails to win on Sunday.

Elsewhere on the card, Rhea Ripley battles Charlotte Flair with the Raw Women’s Championship on the line.

And Bianca Belair puts up her own title against Bayley, while Alexa Bliss and Shayna Baszler’s recent rivalry continues as they meet in the ring.

*WWE SmackDown airs tonight at 1am on BT Sport.
