ATP Mallorca Open 2021: Dominic Thiem Faces an Uphill Task, Daniil Medvedev Handed an Easy Path

The ATP250 Mallorca Championships have announced their draw. The main draw and qualification draw, both have been announced for singles and doubles event. Daniil Medvedev has secured the first seed, whereas Dominic Thiem is the second seeded player.

Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos are the top seed in the doubles event. Marcus Daniell and Philipp Oswald are the second seed in the bottom half. The draws are a source of excitement amongst the fans.

Main battles to look out for at the ATP250 Mallorca

Daniil Medvedev, the top seed player, will be hopeful of winning the grass court tournament at Mallorca. After a tough French Open quarterfinal against Stefanos Tsitsipas, the Russian lost in the first round in the Halle Open. Daniil gave a tough fight to Tsitsipas in the quarterfinal, as he lost 3-6, 6-7, 5-7. The Russian can potentially face Gilles Simon in the quarterfinal stage of the tournament in Spain. He will be hopeful of getting his first win against the French international, who enjoys a 3-0 lead in the head-to-head record.

Dominic Thiem, the second seed, will be hopeful of winning his first grass court tournament, ahead of the Wimbledon Championships. With a potential semifinal matchup against Spanish player, Roberto Bautista Agut, Thiem will face a tough challenge. The Spaniard enjoys a 4-1 head to head record against the Austrian. As a result of this record, Thiem will look to better his score against him, in pursuit of a grass court title.

Novak Djokovic will be playing in the men’s doubles category. After enjoying his French Open title and celebrating with fans in Belgrade, the Serb will look to get into the groove before Wimbledon begins. He will be partnering Carloz Gomez Herrera of Spain.

The World No1 won his 19th Grand Slam title at the Roland Garros last week. He beat Stefanos Tsitsipas in a thrilling comeback. He was down in the first two sets, but he secured win 6-7, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4.
