David Benavidez on Potentially Fighting Canelo Alvarez: “I Got the Power to Keep Him Off From Me”

David Benavidez is one of the most eye-catchy prospects at the 168-pound landscape. In his short yet sublime career, Benavidez has hammered every opponent he’s faced. But, with time, he only wishes to elevate his boxing run, thus going toe-to-toe against some exuberant fighters. That said, the young gun has a powerful urge to face the pound-for-pound king of boxing, Canelo Alvarez.

In a fresh interaction with SNOWQUEENLA, he asserted his interest in fighting Canelo. He also revealed how he’d tackle someone as elite as the Mexican boxer.

“Say, everybody that’s at 168, you know I’m coming for everybody. It doesn’t matter who it is. Charlo, Caleb Plant, Canelo, I’m coming for all of them. I’m working extremely hard and I’m gonna make sure I get all the titles.”

“Me, I got 24 fights, 21 wins by knockout, so I got the power to keep him off from me,” he said.

In his last fight, Saul Alvarez claimed a sensation RTD win against the Brit, Billy Joe Saunders. In the initial rounds, Canelo observed his style and as the bout moved ahead, he made some solid adjustments. As a result, he only got comfortable as the contest moved ahead, and later, he went all out on ‘Superb’ with his slick attacks.

Citing the British boxer’s performance in this fight, Benavidez even admitted that Canelo’s opponents lacked power. However, ‘El Bandera Roja’ is optimistic about not making those mistakes.

Will David Benavidez get to fight Canelo Alvarez in 2021?

Ever since Canelo Alvarez moved up to the super-middleweight landscape, his only dream there was to claim all the belts on the line.

That said, he’s going super strong with his pursuit for the same, and prior to that, he won’t look to fight anyone else.

With that, the probability of Benavidez facing Alvarez in 2021 is slim. However, if the 30-year-old becomes the undisputed champion, then he’d be open to facing any and everyone. And accordingly, ‘El Bandera Roja’ can make his chances viable for a shot against Alvarez.

It’ll be intriguing to see how things shape up between this pair in the coming time.
