Khabib Nurmagomedov Promises to Never Let Islam Makhachev Fail in his Career

Former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov spoke out a presser for Eagles FC and answered a question about a potential comeback. Nurmagomedov officially retired from MMA in October 2020 after defeating Justin Gaethje at UFC 254 in Abu Dhabi.

Despite that, fans and media members often cajole ‘The Eagle’ to reveal a possible scenario under which he could return. Nurmagomedov was once again asked about a possible comeback to MMA in the event that Islam Makhachev failed in his bid to become UFC champion.

Chiefly, Nurmagomedov backed Makhachev and said that he would stand by his teammate no matter what.

“Well, it looks like I have already let everybody know what’s up. Did you watch my last fight? That was firsthand, wasn’t it? I don’t think, anything will change. Islam Makhachev has his own way, I have mine. If Islam fails, he is capable of taking care of himself. But we will be next to him- to help and never let him fail.”

“As for myself, I don’t have any desire to come back and I don’t think I ever will. Thank you. I hope you’ve heard me.”

Khabib Nurmagomedov appeared almost hassled by the line of questioning as it’s one that has been posed to him on many occasions. To this day, many fans cannot fathom the fact that he walked away on top as an undefeated fighter. Leaving the sport of MMA as an undefeated athlete is practically unheard of in today’s game.

Khabib Nurmagomedov: Continued fan-favorite

Despite the fact that ‘The Eagle’ is done with MMA competition, he’s still very much a part of the fabric of the sport. Nurmagomedov has assumed an active role as a head coach to the current crop of fighters out of Russia.
