NBA Insider Explains How Celtics’ Recent Moves Could Force Jayson Tatum Out of Boston

The Boston Celtics lost in the first round of the playoffs against the Brooklyn Nets. It was a series that lasted just five games and the Celtics were easily outclassed. Celtics star Jayson Tatum did his best but eventually it didn’t matter.

Tatum would have hoped that the upcoming season would promise better things, but it looks like he might be worried. NBA insider Jared Weiss revealed some vital behind-the-scenes details about the Celtics locker room.

In his article for The Athletic, he wrote about how Tatum has lost two close friends from the Celtics. 27-year-old Javonte Green was sent to the Bulls at the trade deadline, and now Kemba Walker has also been traded. Both of them were close to Tatum.

And now what makes matters worse is, Tristan Thompson, another close teammate for Tatum, could see himself getting traded. The Celtics brought back Al Horford and now have too many big men on the roster. So Thompson is most likely to leave in order to strengthen other departments.

This puts Tatum in a tough spot, as he had signed a five-year, $195 million max contract extension just last season. He would not have seen this happening at that time, and could feel blindsided.

Will Jayson Tatum still stay or force his way out of the Celtics?

At the start of the season, Tatum would have been over the moon after his extension. The team had just reached another Conference Final, and despite the loss, it showed how consistently good the team is. But as the season went on, the Celtics struggled a lot, and there were doubts about them making the playoffs.

The Celtics scrambled to a play-in tournament spot, and although they made it as a seventh seed, their playoff stay wasn’t too long. So not only is Tatum dealing with multiple friends leaving in a matter of months but also the lack of team success.

He still has Jaylen Brown alongside him with a few exciting players. But unless the Celtics step up as a team, both players and the front office, Tatum might be hunting for greener pastures.
