“These Are My Priorities”: Novak Djokovic Reveals Wimbledon Championship is Not the Only Goal for 2021

Novak Djokovic won his second French Open title last week in Paris, and became the first player to win all four slams twice in the open era. The World No1 is hoping to be at his best performance at the upcoming major events. The Wimbledon Championships, Tokyo Olympics and the US Open will be the key areas to focus upon.

The Wimbledon Championships begin from the 28th of June, and Djokovic will be aiming for his 20th Grand Slam title. The Serb is a favorite to win the tournament, with many experienced players withdrawing and being out of form.

Novak Djokovic and his goal for the upcoming tournaments

Novak Djokovic is the best player in the world, currently. These are not opinions, but facts based on statistics. He is way ahead of others when it comes to the level of the game. At the age of 34, he is outlasting the youngsters. After clinching the Roland Garros, Djokovic will be in London to defend his Wimbledon Championship when the grass court event begins.

I want to be at my best at Wimbledon, but at the US Open and the Olympic Games as well; these are my priorities until the end of the year. The schedule is really tough, there is only 10 to 15 days between Wimbledon and the Olympics, which is not ideal, but it is not the first time that I am in that kind of situation. I am pleased with the way I am recovering; physically, mentally and emotionally,” said Djokovic in an interview TennisMajors.

A Potential Olympic Gold?

Novak Djokovic has never won the Olympic Games in the singles category. He won the bronze in Beijing, in 2008. As a result of injuries and personal issues, many big players have withdrawn from the Olympics and are out of form, respectively. This is a golden opportunity for the Serb to win his first Olympic Gold and Serbia’s fourth in the Summer Olympics.

The Serb can also complete a Golden Grand Slam this year. A player completes a Golden Grand Slam, when he/she wins the Olympic gold along with the other four major slams. An Olympic gold and potential podium finishes in the Wimbledon Championships and the US Open, will secure a Golden Grand Slam for the Serb.

Djokovic can put the GOAT debate to rest, if he finishes the year with a calendar Grand Slam. The Serb is expected to finish with most major titles, as many pundits suggest.
