“Tyson Might Have Got His Number”: Mike Tyson Makes His Pick for Tyson Fury vs. Deontay Wilder III

The upcoming trilogy fight between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury has been the central point of discussion in the boxing world. In the recent episode of his popular podcast, “Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson”, ‘Iron’ Mike discussed how he sees the fight between the behemoths playing out. In conversation with former heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr, Tyson said that he didn’t see the fight playing out any differently than last time.

“Deontay Wilder has nothing to be sad about. There is nothing to complain. He’s fought a great fight. I think Tyson might have got his number. Anything can happen cause he punches hard,” ‘Iron’ opined.

Andy Ruiz Jr furthered Tyson’s prediction by saying that a similar result could be expected if Tyson Fury pressured the ‘Bronze Bomber’ as he did in his last outing.

How accurate is Mike Tyson in his assessment?

Tyson Fury put up an impressive performance in both the fights against Deontay Wilder. “The Gypsy King” has used a similar game-plan for both the bouts i.e. Constant pressure forward behind a long jab. Fury didn’t give Wilder a chance to create an opening for the big one-punch knockout that the American often searches for in his fights.

However, it is doubtful whether Fury would use similar tactics in the third fight. The Englishman has said that he plans to show up at a heavier weight for the third fight.

Fury has shown a clear indication of his plans to knockout Wilder out quicker this time. With more weight behind the jab, Fury could expect to trouble Wilder if he lands consistently. However, the big question mark would be if he can maintain the speed at a heavier bodyweight.

Mike Tyson has always been complimentary of ‘The Gypsy King’. Speaking to ESPN, back in November 2020 Tyson said, “I think he’s very good. He looks like he’s not intimidating, but he’s really elusive, he really knows how to box, he’s really smart and he’s really difficult to hit and he’s 7-foot, damn near. He’s a monster.”

Would Tyson Fury overpower Deontay Wilder in their third fight? Or has “The Bronze Bomber” got a yet to be revealed weapon in his arsenal? We will find out on July 24.
