“Went to the Carpark!”: Webber Cheekily Blames Hamilton for Infamous Baku F1 Scream
It’s very rare to see defending world champion make a mistake during any race. However, his lockup in Baku two weeks ago was one of the most shocking mistakes made by the Briton in his F1 career.
In fact, former Red Bull driver Mark Webber’s reaction to the incident went viral, garnering close to two million views. Ahead of the weekend, the Australian revealed what led to his reaction, while making a joke on Hamilton’s misfortune.

The Azerbaijan Grand Prix was nothing short of chaotic. After Max Verstappen crashed in Lap 47, the race was red flagged and restarted with two laps to go. However, the chaos didn’t end there, as Hamilton ran wide at Turn 1 because of a huge lockup during the restart.
Webber, who was commentating for Channel 4 in Baku, screamed in a way which is rare among commentators after Hamilton’s incident. Appearing on the On the Marbles podcast with Steve Jones and David Coulthard, the Australian detailed Hamilton’s restart, while cracking a joke about the Briton.
He said, “Lewis’ brakes were a tad warm as we saw him pull up into the box there. And he won the start, he had the checkmate pretty much done. Done and dusted, he was there. And he went to the carpark! When his brakes locked up.”
The Australian also pointed out how that reaction came up. “Channel 4 only use the best when it comes to cameras, microphones,” said the 44-year-old. “Yes, I did hit a high note because I was blown away. I was surprised, and sometimes, when someone makes a huge mistake, I shout their name. With this one, I just dropped the ridiculous strip screen!”

Can Hamilton bounce back in Le Castellet?
Although the Briton has three race wins this season, he trails Verstappen by four points in the driver’s championship. Despite a run of poor results in Monaco and Baku, Hamilton returns to a track where he possesses a good record.
The seven-time world champion is the only winner of the French Grand Prix since its return to the F1 calendar in 2018. However, the Briton didn’t top any of the practice sessions yesterday in Le Castellet.
