Wife, 28, plunges 200ft to her death from Wyoming cliff on sunrise hike with her husband

A WIFE plunged 200ft to her death at a beauty spot in Wyoming during a romantic hike to see the sun rise with her husband.

He called 911 just before 6am on Tuesday to say Callie Aust, 28, had fallen from Steamboat Point in the Bighorn Mountains.

Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office revealed at the time Luke Aust was unsure exactly where she was and could not determine her location due to poor cell service.

His wife’s body was located a short time later on the southwest side of Steamboat Point and was recovered by emergency crews.

It was not immediately clear why she fell, however cops say there were “no indications of foul play” and her death is being treated as accidental.

Bighorn National Forest spokesperson Sara Kirol described Steamboat Point as an abandoned fire lookout with pipe railing.

“It is not a safe barrier, but merely a remnant of the lookout tower,” she told The Sheridan Press .

“Cliff edges are unstable and there are a lot of loose rocks on the top of these high places,” she added.

“Standing or sitting near or on the edge of cliff faces is very risky, no matter the location.”

The Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation aided by the Wyoming Highway Patrol and Bighorn National Forest Service Law Enforcement.

The county coroner’s office is also conducting its own independent investigation.

Callie’s employer Bought Beautifully posted a tribute following her death, calling the young woman “a dynamic and entirely singular individual.”

“Her life was a literal example of living out love…she did this exceptionally well, shining God’s love and truth through her everyday actions with deep conviction and focused intention,” it read.

“She loved her family with every ounce of her being…she was everyone’s biggest fan, a ready listener and wise counselor.”

A memorial service for Callie will be held on June 23 at Sheridan Weslyan Church.

Burial will follow immediately in the Juniper Heights section of Sheridan Municipal Cemetery.
