Arrested Development star Tony Hale has opened up about filming ‘twisted’ and ‘crazy’ scenes during his time on the hit show.

The series is a cult classic for a reason, as it’s equal parts bizarre, smart, hilarious and zany with strong writing and incredible acting.

The 50-year-old actor first starred as Buster Bluth in the series back in 2003 before it was cancelled three years later.

A new season was eventually commissioned by Netflix. The first half of the final season aired in 2018 and the second half the following year to rave reviews.

While it would be hard to pick a favourite scene from the show, Tony said there is one scene he loved filming, despite being asthmatic.

In an exclusive interview with Metro.co.uk, he said: ‘That show was such an awesome experience, my favourite scene of all the scenes, the one that stands out the most is with Lucille, played by the lovely Jessica Walter.

‘She was in lockdown in her apartment and Buster, my character, would inhale the smoke from her mouth and then go outside and then blow the smoke out.’

Tony has said he views Buster as a 7-year-old trapped in the body of a middle-aged man.

He did an impeccable job at portraying a man with tremendous anxiety and an unhealthy attachment to his mother.

‘It was the most twisted and hilarious picture of codependency, I’ll never forget doing that,’ the actor explained.

‘Fun fact, I’ve got asthma so this is second-hand smoke to the absolute eighth degree, but it was hilarious. I remember getting light-headed and it was just so crazy and so fun.’

Tony went on to say that there are a lot of wild examples like that from the show, which he puts down to the writing.

‘The writing that Mitch Hurwitz gave us, I’ll never forget. I had a story idea and I gave it to Mitch and he goes: “Oh yeah that’s funny but I think I’m going to have a seal bite off your hand.”

‘I said: “Well, that tops it, let’s do that”.’
