Dustin Poirier’s Coach Predicts Stoppage Win Against Conor McGregor at UFC 264

Dustin Poirier takes on Conor McGregor at UFC 264 next month. Poirier earned a second-round knockout at UFC 257 and avenged his UFC 178 loss in the process. He was finished in the first round by ‘The Notorious’ in 2014.

Recently, Poirier’s Dyah Davis appeared for an interview with MMAJunkie. Davis believes his disciple will pull off yet another finish in the rubber match. “Dustin is active, I think that definitely plays to his favor. Conor was out of the game two, three years so ring rust can possibly play a factor in it, but listen, you’re a fighter,” said Davis.

Conor is a fighter first and his job as a fighter is to be in the gym on a constant basis. You should be training, you should be sharpening your tools and that’s what Dustin does. Even if he doesn’t have a fight scheduled, he’s still in the gym, he’s still training, he’s still doing what he’s supposed to do. He’s still being responsible as a fighter,” he added.

I take this approach as if a lumberjack, we’re in a forest, The idea is to chop the tree down from the bottom and that’s exactly what we did. It’s a fight. So we look for any weaknesses that we could take advantage of and that was one of them. So we capitalized and we moved on from there and ended up finishing him with strikes,” he said further.

“I think it’ll play out similar to the second fight, maybe a little bit longer. I see us executing and getting a KO victory in the third round,” Davis gave his verdict.

Will Dustin Poirier shock Conor McGregor yet again?

It’s hard to predict a fight between such evenly matched opponents like Poirier and McGregor. Poirier has been one of the best fighters in the UFC since his move up to lightweight. Also, his win at UFC 257 will give the extra boost in confidence.

McGregor, on the other hand, has been very inactive over the course of the last 5 years. And one might argue he has seldom looked his usual self. However, fans tend to forget the fact that he was one of the best fighters in the UFC during his rise.
