Good Morning Britain: What is Martin Lewis’s net worth and who is his wife?
Money saving expert Martin Lewis is set to join Susanna Reid as a presenter on Good Morning Britain, slipping into Piers Morgan’s vacated seat as the latest guest co-host since the broadcaster’s dramatic exit in March.
The financial journalist has long advised people on savings, money and day-to-day expenses, from household bills to applying for a mortgage, both online and on TV, but what is his net worth and who is his wife?
Who is Martin Lewis?
Martin is one of the most widely recognised financial journalists in the UK, mostly thanks to his frequent TV appearances.
The 49-year-old attended the London School of Economics, where he read government and law, and Cardiff University, where he studied broadcast journalism, before taking a job at a financial communications consultancy.
Martin also began his journalism career, starting out as a producer for the BBC business unit and working on the business shows and slots for BBC Radio Five Live and BBC Radio 4’s Today programme.
After moving to Simply Money, fronted by Angela Rippon, Martin first began work on his Money Saving Expert persona, and also contributed to a column in the Daily Express. In February 2003, he founded his popular MoneySavingExpert.com (MSE) website.
When Simply Money collapsed, Martin began appearing in slots and as a reporter for Channel 5’s Open House with Gloria Hunniford and then BBC Breakfast News, before then truly becoming well-known by featuring on ITV’s This Morning, Lorraine and, eventually, Good Morning Britain.
He has also fronted his own shows in the past, including Make Me Rich and It Pays to Watch!, and since 2012 has presented The Martin Lewis Money Show. His current co-presenter on the programme is Angelica Bell.
Martin was awarded an OBE in 2014 for services to consumer rights and to charitable services through the MSE Charity Fund.
What is Martin Lewis’s net worth?
Martin’s net worth as of 2021 is estimated to be around £123million. The source of the majority of his wealth is his MSE website, which he sold in 2012 to the Moneysupermarket.com group in a part cash, part shares and part future payment deal that is thought to have been worth as much as £87m.
The financial expert remains editor-in-chief of the website, which he originally created for just £100.
As part payment for MSE, Martin received 22.1m shares in Moneysupermarket.com, which he then sold in 2015 for £25.2m.
Having donated money to charity on the sale of his website, said to be £10m, with £1m going to Citizens Advice, Martin then donated another £1m to Citizens Advice and £500,000 each to The Trussell Trust and the Personal Finance Education Group.
Who is Martin Lewis’s wife?
Martin is married to TV journalist and former weather presenter Lara Lewington. Lara began her broadcast career in 2003 at Five and Five News before moving to Sky News as a showbiz correspondent.
She now presents the BBC’s technology programme Click, which she joined in 2011 as a reporter, and makes appearances on various radio and TV shows as a tech expert.
Lara and Martin tied the knot in 2009 and welcomed their daughter, Sapphire, in November 2012.
