‘He Failed to Throw More Punches’ – Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Says His Fight With Anderson Silva Should Have Been a Draw

Former world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. lost his comeback fight against former UFC champion, Anderson Silva, in an intriguing PPV main-event in Mexico. While both men could successfully see the final bell, ‘Spider’ claimed his victory via a unanimous decision. Although it was a close fight, 46-year-old Anderson Silva did enough to depart with the last laugh.

Meanwhile, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. appeared vexed with the decision. No wonder boxing fans had expected more from him, which the Mexican prodigy failed to deliver. However, Chavez Jr. didn’t see it as a loss and argued why the judges should have ruled it as a draw, in the post-fight interview.

“There’s some with the fact that he thinks it could have been a draw. He [Anderson Silva] failed to throw more punches, he really didn’t do that much damage. So, a couple of rounds he could have gone back and forth but it was a draw,” said the Mexican boxer.

Despite all the arguments, UFC veteran Anderson Silva looked more promising in the bout. The eight rounds collision brought two of the greatest fighters against each other. While Chavez Jr. entered the ring after 6 months, Silva stepped up in a pro-boxing challenge after 16 years. So, this sheer difference favored the Mexican boxer over the Brazilian fighter.

Well, Anderson Silva has still got the fire in his belly. While he is no longer linked with the UFC, his successful boxing move can bring the ‘Spider’ into several more lucrative matchups ahead in his fighting career. But where does it leave Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.?
