Things will look a little different behind the scenes on this year’s series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, with stars reportedly set to stay in a resort featured in the Inbetweeners movie.

The show has put up its contestants in the five-star Palazzo Versace in the past, but things are now moving to a surfers’ resort in Byron Bay.

According to The Mirror, the resort is closer to the camp in New South Wales. It means that the crew would be able to travel between the two locations if Covid shut down borders later in the year.

Restrictions mean that contestants will face two weeks of isolation before the series begins, with 500 crew members set to work on the show also observing protocols.

An Australian crew member said: ‘It’s fantastic the show is heading back to Oz this year but it doesn’t mean it can be filmed as it has in previous years. They need to be prepared in case there is a new Covid outbreak in the area.

‘There have been years when celebs have been booked at the very last minute but that can’t happen if the quarantine rules remain in place.’

The crew member also said that Ant and Dec’s traditional night out in Coolangatta, Queensland to celebrate Ant’s birthday on November 18 would likely have to be cancelled.

The resort featured in the second Inbetweeners movie, with the boys played by Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, James Buckley and Blake Harrison staying in the resort in Byron Bay.

It’s also reported that while there will be a scramble for hotel rooms, Ant and Dec will be able to stay in their usual apartment in New South Wales in Cabarita Beach.

It was reported back in May that the show was returning to Australia in 2021. The news came after I’m A Celebrity bosses had just two weeks to decide whether or not the show would be heading Down Under this year.

The ITV programme relocated to Gwrych Castle in north Wales for the last series as a result of the pandemic and there have been concerns it would return to its temporary UK home for a second inning.

Metro.co.uk has reached out to ITV for comment.

I’m A Celebrity will return to ITV later this year.
