Lewis Hamilton is in a ‘Bad Situation’ at Mercedes F1: Nico Rosberg

Former F1 world champion Nico Rosberg has claimed that Lewis Hamilton must have been pushing to get Valtteri Bottas’ chassis.

There have been a lot of reports on chassis swap between the Mercedes drivers. Ahead of the French Grand Prix, Bottas has taken Hamilton’s chassis and vice versa.

Rosberg raced for Mercedes from 2010 to 2016 and won the title in his final year with the team. He promptly retired after winning the title and left the sport on a high.

During his time, Rosberg recalled there was no such thing as a chassis swap between the drivers unless there was a crash. Mercedes came out to clarify that a chassis swap is a rotational event that is planned.

It is very difficult to find any answers, so it is a bad situation for Lewis: Rosberg

According to Planetf1, Rosberg has stated that a chassis swap would not be possible if Lewis Hamilton had pushed for it. He also mentioned that Hamilton is not completely comfortable with his car and does not trust it to do what he wants.

“In all the years I’ve been here, if you changed chassis you would go from your current chassis to a new one, or a current chassis to a test chassis if you had a crash or something.

“But never between drivers. The only explanation I have is that Lewis [Hamilton] has been pushing for that and maybe wanted to see if something was not quite right with his car,” said Rosberg.

“I think in Lewis’ case now it is a really bad situation for him. He’s on the back foot and doesn’t trust he has a properly functioning car. It is very difficult to find any answers, so it is a bad situation for Lewis,” Rosberg added.

Can Lewis and Mercedes bounce back to win French GP?

Lewis Hamilton is starting on the front row of the grid alongside his championship rival Max Verstappen. Although Red Bull were faster on a one-lap pace, Mercedes looks closer on race pace. What’s more, they are also more competitive on the harder tires.

Lewis struggled at Paul Ricard throughout the whole weekend, yet he managed to put the car on P2. If he can start well then he and Mercedes have a chance to win the French Grand Prix.
