The Love Island villa has seen some of the most brutal breakups in reality TV history, from betrayals and cheating to vicious fights and outright gaslighting, they have taken place both on and off the show.

Most contestants enter the villa in the hopes of finding romance or true love, unfortunately, the ITV2 programme hasn’t had the best success rate.

There has only been a handful of couples that have stayed together since leaving the show and a lot of savage breakups.

Here are some of the most intense Love Island splits that have taken place over the years.

While in the villa, Olivia Attwood and Chris Hughes squabbled nonstop, with fans turning against Olivia for what they perceived to be her harsh treatment of him.

The couple ended up staying together and came third in the 2017 series. They then went on to score their own show called Crackin’ On, which was meant to document their relationship but ended up airing their split.

The pair would have blazing rows on screen, which eventually led to Chris ending things on camera.

Olivia later accused him of doing it so publicly on purpose: ‘[I said] “Chris I’m really unhappy for that raw moment to be on telly”. But he felt really strongly.

‘At this moment I think he’d already communicated it with production. He wanted me to drive to the house and have that moment.’

Adam Collard and Rosie Williams

Adam Collard proved he couldn’t be trusted in 2018, as he made his way from Kendall Rae-Knight to Rosie, then Zara McDermott and Darylle Sargeant.

But it was Adam’s gaslighting of Rosie that sparked the greatest public uproar as he denied his very obvious feelings for Zara.

Instead of acknowledging he wanted to be with the new addition to the villa, he blamed Rosie’s ‘jealousy’ for ‘pushing him away,’ and grinned callously as she sobbed.

Marcel Somerville and Gabby Allen

Marcel and Gabby were a fan favourite in 2017 and appeared to have found true love.

They lasted until April 2018, as Gabby dumped him due to allegations that he had cheated on her.

She allegedly discovered text messages from another woman implying that he had slept with her while on vacation with Gabby.

In a statement, Marcel’s representative confirmed the rumours, saying: ‘Sadly the rumours are true, Gabby and Marcel have split up. Marcel can’t really defend his actions as he knows he did wrong and will regret it forever.’

Marcel later sparked outrage from fans after he blamed their split on the fact they simply ‘drifted apart’.

Gabby went on to date Myles Stephenson, whom she later accused of infidelity.

Megan Barton-Hanson and Wes Nelson

Megan Barton-Haneson and Wes Nelson met on the 2018 series and were together for a while before eventually calling it quits after the show.

Sadly things took a turn for the worst, as Megan publicly accused Wes’ Dancing On Ice partner Vanessa Bauer of trying to get ‘headlines’ by announcing her split from boyfriend the same day as Wes’ first skate.

‘@vanessabauer_skates love that you decide to announce your break-up with your boyfriend on the night of your 1st performance with my boyfriend,’ she wrote on Instagram.

‘You’ve never reached out to me once or invited me to watch you train, it pained you to introduce yourself to me last night you didn’t even look me in the eye LOL.

‘Hope your tactical breakup got you the headlines you wanted babe @wes.nelson.’

Megan later apologised for her conduct, and the former couple announced their split a few weeks later with a funny statement indicating they’d be co-parenting their hamster.

The peace didn’t last long though, as Megan later accused Wes of messaging another Love Islander while he was with her. She also said he was ‘vanilla’ in bed.

Amber Gill and Greg O’Shea

Amber Gill and Greg O’Shea were the unexpected Love Island 2019 victors, defeating Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury.

Fans were taken aback when it was discovered that they had broken up barely five weeks after winning.

Greg allegedly dumped her through text, blaming their hectic schedules for their inability to make it work.

Amber wasn’t shy when asked if she had any advice for the new Islanders.

‘I would say be yourself always, stay true to yourself, take everything with a pinch of salt, have fun, don’t worry about a thing and always remember these men are trash,’ she said on Twitter.

Sam Bird and Georgia Steel

Despite the odds stacked against them, Sam Bird and Georgia Steel continued their relationship once they left their villa.

Unfortunately it wasn’t to last, as Sam accused Georgia of cheating with her ex-boyfriend.

Sam said he’d found a suspicious selfie of Georgia in bed with her ex-boyfriend and there were rumours of ‘explicit’ texts being exchanged.

Georgia has denied the allegations and has instead blamed the split on Sam making her feel ‘miserable’ during the relationship. It is these comments that resulted in an explosive argument during the Love Island Christmas special.

Jordan Hames and Anna Vakili

The breakup of Jordan Hames and Anna Vakili will go down as one of the most savage Love Island breakups in history, as it was both unexpected and brutal.

Jordan had asked Anna to be his girlfriend only a day before cracking on with India Reynolds, oh and making things even messier, he admitted his feelings for India to Curtis Pritchard.

He then made the decision to tell India before telling Anna, who was told about the situation by friend Maura Higgins.

The scene that erupted may have been reality TV gold, but the savagery made it difficult to watch. We’re just glad Anna put him in his place.

Malin Andersson and Terry Walsh

The savagery doesn’t end there. Malin Andersson was shockingly dumped from the island after ending up in the bottom three girls.

Official boyfriend Terry decided not to follow her though and didn’t even wait a day before stating he wanted to move on with Emma-Jane Woodham, leaving Malin to watch from home.

‘I’ll be honest with you, I’m just not missing Malin one bit,’ he told fellow contestants, saying he’d been planning to dump her.

Malin had the last laugh though, as Love Island producers persuaded Terry to meet up with Malin for a drink.

Here she brutally confronted him, calling Terry a ‘joke’.

Amy Hart and Curtis Pritchard

Love Island 2019 proved to be a series with intense moments, such as when Amy Hart returned from Casa Amor intending to rekindle her relationship with Curtis Pritchard.

Sadly she found out that he had kissed someone else.

Her iconic line, ‘I was coming back here to tell you that I loved you,’ has since gone down in Love Island history.

Love Island is set to return June 28 on ITV2.
