It’s been a long time coming, but The Handmaid’s Tale is finally back on our screens.

Fans have had a two-year wait for season four, after the third season aired all the way back in 2019.

The episodes have been available for a while in the US on Hulu, but viewers in the UK have had to remain patient until now.

The show is back on our screens this evening, with the season set to premiere on Sunday June 20 at 9pm on Channel 4.

In the official synopsis for the new season, it’s teased that protagonist June Osborne (Elisabeth Moss) faces ‘unexpected and dangerous new challenges’, which threaten to ‘destroy her most cherished relationships’.

But will it be the last season? Here’s everything you need to know.

The good news is, the show is officially coming back for a fifth season.

The cast of the drama confirmed the news back in December that the show would be returning.

It’s not yet been confirmed whether the show will continue past its fifth season, with  showrunner Bruce Miller previously telling The Hollywood Reporter he ‘doesn’t know’ whether the drama will continue beyond that.

‘I mean, we talked about it, and [Elisabeth Moss] and I have talked about it, and the writing staff and I have talked about it extensively about where we’re going precisely, but I do feel like after this year, it’s a good time to reassess,’ he said.

There’s plenty to look forward to until then.

The end of the third season saw June pull off a successful operation with the help of fellow Handmaids and Marthas to smuggle a large group of children out of Gilead on a plane into Canada. However, June decided to stay behind to try and free her eldest daughter, Hannah.

In the official synopsis for the season released by Hulu, it states that the new season ‘picks up where we left off, with June’s fight for freedom against Gilead’.

The first three seasons of The Handmaid’s Tale are available to watch on Amazon Prime Video and on All 4.
