Wolff Caught Comparing Hamilton & Verstappen’s F1 Onboard at French GP

Mercedes CEO Toto Wolff knows what it takes to make a team successful in Formula One. With seven back-to-back constructor’s championships, the Austrian often leaves no stone unturned to be the best.

At the French Grand Prix, fans witnessed another moment of Wolff’s determined nature. Although Red Bull bested the Silver Arrows in qualifying yesterday, the 49-year-old visited the Skypad to chat with Karun Chandhok after the session.

Why did Toto Wolff visit Skypad after qualifying?

It’s no secret that Mercedes aren’t their usual selves this season. Although they have three wins this season, Red Bull look stronger than ever before with Max Verstappen leading their charge.

Despite Mercedes dominating the last two editions of the French Grand Prix, Verstappen took pole position ahead of Hamilton. After the session, Wolff visited former F1 driver Karun Chandhok in Sky Sport’s SkyPad, where he viewed the flying laps of both drivers in split-screen. In this short video, the Austrian is seen drawing insights from watching those laps.

Chandhok later tweeted, “Toto even came to the Skypad to see if he could learn anything from the side by side comparison with Max.

The Mercedes Team Principal has had a busy weekend with the media in Le Castellet. The Austrian fielded questions regarding the driver lineup on Friday and Saturday before this interaction. In fact, he even joked with the media by mentioning the decision on next year’s driver lineup won’t wait until the winter despite his comments on Friday.

Can Mercedes bounce back in today’s race?

Although Mercedes are 26 points behind Red Bull in the constructor’s championship, they have an excellent track record in Le Castellet. Today, Wolff and the Silver Arrows need that experience more than ever as Verstappen will start ahead of both their drivers.

In addition, Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Perez starts just behind Valtteri Bottas, which could make for an interesting race later today. With small margins separating both teams, there is no room for error for the defending world champions.
