Naga Munchetty has admitted that her honeymoon wasn’t the most idyllic time of her life, describing it as the ‘most boring holiday’.

The BBC Breakfast presenter tied the knot with James Haggar in 2004 and the couple later jetted off to Mauritius, where her father is from, for their newlywed honeymoon.

However, it wasn’t the trip Naga, 46, had in mind exactly, as she revealed to Alan Carr on his Life’s A Beach podcast: ‘I’m not a sunlounger person. I don’t do that. So – this sounds awful – one of the most boring holidays I had was my honeymoon. And not for the reasons you may think.

‘The honeymoon side was fine. It was all good.’

It was on the second day of the holiday where things went pear-shaped due to Naga injuring herself in the water.

The broadcaster recalled: ‘I got into the sea, hung onto the pontoon and there were barnacles on the post underneath. I didn’t realise and slashed my leg. I decided not to tell anyone. Did my water ski round for about 15 to 20 minutes. I came off and blood was gushing from my leg.

‘I had to have little mini stitches in it and couldn’t shower the leg for the rest of the honeymoon. Couldn’t do any more water sports so literally had to sit on a beach or go to the tea plantation. I was a bit bored. And read a lot.’

Comedian Alan then said what we’re all thinking, joking: ‘Blood in the water. Shark thinking “mmm tasty meal”,’ to which Naga replied: ‘I think we’re alright in Mauritius. A shark didn’t get me so there wasn’t a shark there.’

Naga typically keeps her private life out of the spotlight but did once reveal the secret to her happy marriage with TV consultant James.

Speaking to The Guardian in 2016, she revealed: ‘When James and I got married almost 12 years ago, one of his aunts said to us: the best bit of advice I can give you is to simply be kind to one another. She was right.’

She added: ‘James and I are both golfers, and I think it’s great for our relationship.

‘It gives us a few hours together when we’re walking and talking and catching up; it really makes a difference. Golf takes you on a journey together, and it means you stay in touch with one another.’
