Brawn Rules Out Return to Mercedes F1 Pit Wall – “Wouldn’t be Good for My Blood Pressure”

Former Mercedes team boss Ross Brawn is excited that F1 is finally getting a championship fight. Just like every F1 fan, F1’s managing director Ross Brawn is also enjoying the fight between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. In the latest installment, Max and Red Bull outsmarted Lewis and Mercedes to win the French Grand Prix.

Lewis inherited the lead from Max when the latter ran wide on turn 2. But after the first round of pit stops, the Dutchman undercut the 7-time world champion to reclaim the lead. In the middle of the race, Red Bull called in Verstappen to put him on a two-stopper.

This risky strategy gave the Red Bull driver 19 laps and 18 seconds to hunt down the Mercedes of Hamilton. In the penultimate lap of the race, Max passed Lewis to get to P1 and extend his championship lead.

I’m too old and it wouldn’t be good for my blood pressure!: Brawn

In his column on Formula1.com, Brawn mentioned that the two-stop strategy from Red Bull was aggressive and brave. He also mentioned that Lewis impressed him on Sunday and his tire management was amazing.

The Managing Director of F1 also acknowledged the difficulties faced by the Mercedes strategy crew –

“My wife asked me ‘what would I be doing if I was back on the Mercedes pit wall?’ I said I‘m glad I’m not on the pit wall. I’m too old and it wouldn’t be good for my blood pressure!”

It’s great to see a real tooth and nail fight between Mercedes & Red Bull: Ross Brawn

“What we are seeing now is a classic championship fight and it makes us realize what we’ve been missing these last few years. We’d love a two-team fight for the championship, and if we can’t have that, we want two teammates fighting for the title,” said Brawn.

“We have been lacking both of those things since Nico won his championship in 2016. So it’s great to seeing a real tooth and nail fight. 

And it’s being done in a good spirit, between drivers, and between teams. There’s the normal banter and the technical debates are all part of the landscape of F1.” said Ross Brawn.
