Daniel Ricciardo Gives His Seal of Approval to Exciting Australian GP F1 Changes

The Australian Grand Prix is always the first race of the season. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it set to be in the month of November.

The free time gave the organizers to improve the track, which could see it having more wheel-to-wheel action on race day. Daniel Ricciardo, a driver hailing from Australia is certainly excited about the changes done to track for his home race.

The 31-year-old is thrilled and excited to see the overtaking opportunity it presents when they zip around the circuit in November. Speedcafe has learned that there will be a fourth DRS zone added to the circuit and, Turn 9/10 will be removed from the flat-out corner around the track.

Daniel Ricciardo is excited to see the changes

As quoted from Speedcafe.com, Ricciardo said, “I think it looks good. The layout was always fun but it never offered much overtaking, so I think to really push that and pursue it is really good of the organisers to do and I think it’s going to be great.

“Fingers crossed we can get there, but in any case when we do I think it should provide better racing. I’m looking forward to the changes, for sure,” Ricciardo concluded.

The Australian GP is set to have more overtaking chances

The race in Melbourne is the twenty-first round of the 2021 season. It’s months before the F1 paddock reaches the shores of Australia. Hence, they saw this as an opportunity to make improvements, which could result in a more exciting race.

The Australian GP CEO, Andrew Westacott said, “The sweep around Lakeside Drive was designed with a DRS zone in mind, which is our expectation and we’re awaiting sign-off from the FIA in the coming weeks and months.

“We’re expecting that the changes will result in more passing opportunities, particularly at the old Turn 13. Which for the first time in 2021 will now be known as Turn 11,” he explained.

Fans and Ricciardo himself are excited to go back to Melbourne this year. As it was canceled from last year’s calendar due to the pandemic. Ricciardo is excited about the changes and is excited to show his fellow Australians what he can do around the track in a McLaren.
