Dead Space revival to be announced by EA next month claims insider
EA is reportedly planning to announce the revival of ‘an established IP’ at their EA Play event in July, and it sounds like Dead Space.
Like many companies, EA wasn’t at E3 2021 but they do have an EA Play event scheduled for July 22. They’ll use that as a venue to reveal new details of upcoming games and unveil news ones… possibly including a revival of Dead Space.
It’s been eight years since the release of Dead Space 3 and for much of that time fans have been pinning their hopes for a new game on one rumour or another. This latest one comes from VentureBeat journalist Jeff Grubb, who claims that EA will unveil a new title at EA Play.
Grubb proved to be accurate about a number of announcements at E3 this year, but if his hints are meant to be subtle they really don’t seem that way, with the comment that, ‘We’re going to see it, if we’re not dead first’.
In a previous video, Grubb discussed how EA was working on reviving an ‘established IP’ but this is the first time he’s specifically hinted at Dead Space. (Unless you can think of another franchise that fits that clue.)
His previous comments pointed to EA Motive, whose first title was the surprisingly good Star Wars: Squadrons, making the new game and they’ve already confirmed they’re working on ‘several unannounced projects’.
A blog post from the studio last October emphasised innovation and experimentation, although that doesn’t necessarily preclude them working on a pre-existing property.
Dead Space was never a major seller but if EA are working on a new game it may be response to spiritual sequel The Callisto Protocol, from series co-creator Glen Schofield.
That game is scheduled for release in 2022 and while little has been seen of it so far, Schofield has stated it’s his intention to create ‘the scariest game on next gen platforms’.
