Eamonn Holmes thought Daisy Lowe’s dad Gavin Rossdale was dead in awkward exchange
Eamonn Holmes experienced an embarrassing moment over the weekend when he mistakenly sent his condolences to Daisy Lowe, thinking her father had died.
The 32-year-old model’s dad, quite famously, is Bush singer and former judge on The Voice UK Gavin Rossdale.
Daisy had shared a sweet tribute to her dad on Instagram on Father’s Day, writing that ‘it’s been way too long since I gave you a cuddle’, and sharing about how pandemics and living on separate continents ‘really suck’.
Alongside her message, she shared a photo of herself with Gavin from a few years ago, and it seems broadcaster Eamonn skipped over the rest of her words and assumed the throwback pic was because her dad had died.
Clearly not clocking Gavin, Eamonn, full of sympathy, commented: ‘I had no idea u had lost your Dad Daisy. He must have been so young x’
Daisy took his well-meant mistake in her stride though, replying: ‘@eamonnholmes he’s just in la where I can’t visit!!! Thank you love xxx’
Others spotted his mistake and offered a correction, with one posting: ‘@eamonnholmes her dad is alive and well thankfully! It’s Gavin Rossdale, the musician.’
Former Strictly Come Dancing contestant Daisy also praised her dad for being ‘the greatest leader of the pack’.
She continued his list of accomplishments, writing: ‘Giving the best advice, forever the calm and compassionate fountain of wisdom.’
‘And the creator of the worlds [sic] best breakfast burritos. I am so grateful, in the worlds most complicated way, you turned out to be my dad.’
Daisy’s mum is model Pearl Lowe, 51, and growing up Daisy always believed her father was Pearl’s ex-partner Bronner Handwerger and Gavin, her mother’s best friend, was purely her godfather.
However, when Daisy was 14 she discovered her blood type matched neither of her parents’ and a paternity test confirmed Bush frontman Gavin was her biological father.
Gavin and Pearl’s relationship suffered when the former singer-songwriter allowed her daughter to take the test, which she revealed in an interview with Easy Living magazine in 2012, saying: ‘Gavin told me if Daisy, then 14, had a DNA test, he’d never speak to me again and he’s kept his word.
‘I lost him as a friend, but Daisy has a relationship with him, which is great.’
The father and daughter are now close, with Daisy having also developed a bond with Gavin’s three kids from his 13-year marriage to No Doubt singer Gwen Stefani, Kingston, 15, Zuma, 12, and seven-year-old Apollo.
Daisy finished off her post: ‘You inspire me every day… I love you more than words could ever express- I can’t wait til we get to have more adventures together again.’
Gavin was touched by her public outpouring of love, and commented back to his daughter: ‘awwwww my sweet love – you are really so kind and so special ———-i’m so proud of you —-we love you so much and need you to get here to us.
‘We have adventures waiting. and we need your cakes. @kingsrossdale_ @ya_yeet769 and apollo. Xxxxx.’
