Gillian Anderson has confirmed she is in talks for a fourth season of The Fall as she teased a return to the hit drama.

The acclaimed show saw Gillian play Detective Superintendent Stella Gibson take on the hunt for Jamie Dornan’s serial killer Paul Spector.

The BBC programme ran for three seasons between 2013 and 2016, and now the actress has confirmed that she could yet make a comeback to the role.

The actress, 52, spoke during a Variety ‘Actors on Actors’ discussion with Elisabeth Moss about the performances they would love to revisit.

Gillian said: ‘I think probably The Fall, and that’s something we are in discussions about.

‘Even when we ended those three seasons, we talked about the fact that one day — maybe in the same way that Prime Suspect came back,’ she added.

‘There were huge breaks between their seasons. Our writer-creator-director Allan Cubitt has been ready to dip back in and revisit it and her.’

We have to admit we had thought the chance of the show returning had been and gone – but after hearing these latest comments, we’re so onboard for the drama to come back.

It wouldn’t be the first time Gillian has sent fans into raptures recently either, after Gillian and David Duchovny enjoyed a low-key reunion to the delight of X-Files viewers.

The former co-stars – who appeared as FBI special agents Dana Scully and Fox Mulder respectively in the sci-fi show from 1993 to 2002 – hung out recently, and it’s safe to say everyone loved seeing them back together again.

Gillian, who is preparing to star in the third season of Sex Education, also baffled many Golden Globes viewers earlier this year with her changing outfit.

Gillian accepted the award for best supporting actress for playing Margaret Thatcher in The Crown in her American accent, a change from the British accent that we’re used to hearing in her other shows.

The Fall is ready to stream on BBC iPlayer.
