Griff opens up on ‘chaotic’ childhood: ‘I tried to find safety in different places’
Griff has detailed how her life has been one big tightrope — as she exorcises a ‘chaotic’ childhood and bad dreams about exes in debut mixtape One Foot In Front Of The Other.
Striking a precarious pose, the Brit winner confessed the story behind her meteoric rise has been turbulent — as her track Shade Of Yellow is ‘about escape’.
‘There were many times in my childhood where, because it was either chaotic or not that great at home, I’d find refuge in my best friend’s house or something,’ the Good Stuff singer, 20, said. ‘The lamp in this song is a metaphor for always coming back to a person, and it’s good to admit that you’re coming back for them.
‘It’s about just trying to find safety and home in different places.’
And her fears and memories of ex-lovers still play on her mind at night. On her inspiration for Remembering My Dreams, the British star — real name Sarah Faith Griffiths — told Apple Music: ‘In the daytime, we can be busy and fine, and then suddenly, the moment you’re asleep, things come back — whether it’s your ex or your fears or anxieties. These things always seem to find a way back.’
Whale I never! Shape-shifting Col’s new look
Colin Farrell has unveiled his latest unrecognisable screen reincarnation — going from Batman villain The Penguin to puffing on a pipe as a burly bearded sailor.
The Irish heartthrob looks worse for wear as he is seen for the first time in snaps from Andrew Haigh’s forthcoming adaptation of The North Water.
Filmed in the freezing surrounds of the Arctic, a dirty-faced Farrell appears with long dark hair and impressive beard as Henry Drax, a brutal harpooner, in the BBC drama. He is joined in an all-star cast, including Line of Duty star Stephen Graham, sporting shoulder-length hair as Captain Brownlee, and Jack O’Connell as Patrick Sumner.
Based on the novel by Ian McGuire, the five-part series tells the story of Sumner, a disgraced ex-army surgeon who signs up as ship’s doctor on an Arctic whaling expedition.
As the true purpose of the expedition becomes clear, a confrontation erupts between the men.
The series, which takes place in the late 1850s, is set in Hull and on the ice floes of the Svalbard archipelago.
Its cast travelled as far as 81 degrees north — believed to be the furthest point a drama series has ever filmed.
The North Water will air on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer this autumn.

James left fielding bad after crop flop
It was a no from mum when X Factor champ James Arthur ‘thought it would be really funny’ to drive crop circles on a field belonging to his girlfriend’s mother — then got stuck.
The 33-year-old refers to the ‘weird, embarrassing’ incident in new tune September.
And he told The Official Big Top 40: ‘Her mum comes out and the first time she meets me, she’s like flicking mud out of her eye, trying to help me out. I get pulled out by the breakdown service thing and I just couldn’t look at her mum in the eye at all.’
Anderson could fall back into old role
Gillian Anderson has revealed plans to revive murder thriller The Fall are under way.
The Crown star played detective Stella Gibson in the TV hit, with Jamie Dornan as her nemesis.
‘The Fall is something we are in discussion about,’ said the Sex Education actress, 52. ‘This has been the first time that our writer-creator-director Allan Cubitt has been ready to dip back in. I think it would be fun.’
Fifty Shades star Dornan, 39, is unlikely to return.
Foos fans have a field Dave
Foo Fighters fans got two Daves for the price of one when the rockers staged New York’s first full-capacity show in the pandemic.
The band’s frontman Dave Grohl brought out comedian Dave Chappelle for a rendition of Radiohead’s Creep at Madison Square Garden — with Grohl, 52, on guitar, and Chappelle, 47, on lead vocals. The gig required all over-16s to be fully vaccinated. ‘We’ve been waiting for this day for over a year,’ said Grohl.
