New Love Island contestant Sharon Gaffka star has spoken about the upcoming series, saying she won’t be having sex on TV like Zara Holland.

As fans of the programme will remember, former beauty queen Zara was relieved of her Miss GB title after scenes of her having sexual relations with a fellow contestant on the show were shown on TV back in 2016.

Now a friend of Sharon, who became the first contestant to be revealed for this year’s series earlier today, has said that there’s ‘zero chance’ she’ll be following suit.

A source told The Sun: ‘Sharon is intensely political and a big campaigner around equality and women’s rights.

‘She’s always talked of wanting to work in politics so is likely to use her platform on the show to talk about issues which she feels passionately about. She is going to take everyone by surprise.’

The 25-year-old islander hails from Oxford and was also crowned Miss International UK in 2018. Now, she’s looking for love on the series.

Sharon has previously spoke about championing women’s rights on Instagram, and is an ambassador for feminist organisation The Young Women’s Trust.

Speaking ahead of entering the Majorcan villa, Sharon said: ‘It’s been a bit of a running joke between my friendship group for a while that I should apply, probably because I’m the most outrageous one out of the group.

‘But also because of Covid and the lockdown, I’m the only single one in my friendship group. They’re either married or planning on getting married. I don’t want to be the only one in the group chat that is single anymore.’

Explaining what she looks for in a man, Sharon shared: ‘I tend to date someone who is taller than me, even though my last long-term partner, he was actually someone who was shorter than me.

‘I’m quite an intellectual person so I want someone who can kind of match that.’

Love Island launches Monday 28 June at 9pm on ITV2.
