Actor Amelie Bea Smith has come full circle as the new voice of Peppa Pig after being a fan of the series since she was a baby
The animated children’s programme about the daily adventures of a young pig, her little brother George and her family and friends, has become a huge hit all over the world.
So far there have been three different voices of Peppa, the most notable being Harley Bird who played the character from 2007 to 2020.
Amelie, 10, has taken the reigns and couldn’t be more perfect for the role.
Appearing on Monday’s This Morning she told hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield that her first word was actually ‘Peppa’.
An excited Holly said: ‘It was literally written in the stars, wasn’t it, that you were going to do this?’
When asked how she prepared the cartoon pig’s voice she said listening to the show when she was younger helped her ‘adapt’ her own voice.
‘My voice has changed from when I was younger,’ she told Holly, ‘I think my voice is slightly similar but Peppa’s voice is slightly more Peppa.’
Her friends at school love her being a part of Peppa Pig, especially her pal Daisy who always tries to get Amelie to take part in Peppa’s favourite game.
The young star said: ‘We don’t talk about it much [at school] and they think it’s really cool.
‘My friend Daisy points at puddles and says, “That’s a muddy puddle, you have to jump in that!”‘
Amelie’s voice will appear on the upcoming album Peppa Pig’s Adventures, due for release on July 30, and includes the sporting themed song Bing Bong Champion. It will be followed by the single Peppa’s Adventures next month.
Peppa Pig celebrated its 15th anniversary in 2019, with then-voice of Peppa Harley telling Metro.co.uk she’s happy to be linked to the role forever.
‘Obviously Peppa has been part of my life for so long,’ she said at the time.
‘Peppa is just a part of me now so I don’t mind. I’d like to always remember Peppa, it’s always linked with good thoughts and memories.’
Families can tune in to the show on Channel 5, Nick Jr. and Netflix in the UK.
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
