‘We Were Lucky for the Time We Had’- Daniel Cormier Pens an Earnest Ode to His Father on Father’s Day

Former UFC champion Daniel Cormier took to social media and shared a heartfelt post honoring his father on Father’s Day. Anyone who follows ‘DC’ would know that he shared a particularly close bond with his late stepfather Percy Benoit. Cormier’s biological father, Joseph Cormier, died when he was seven and he was raised by Benoit until he passed in 2019.

Cormier’s father died due to cancer and ‘DC’ has been extremely vocal about the impact his father had on him. His most recent Instagram post paid homage to everything his father meant to him and his family. The post was extremely moving, especially for those who have heard Cormier’s first-hand account of his father’s impact.

Daniel Cormier: In a league of his own

For fans who have just been ingratiated into the MMA community, Daniel Cormier is the man at the commentary booth. He has been ringside along with Joe Rogan and Jon Anik for some of the biggest moments in UFC history. However, his place in the history books is solidified, first and foremost, as a fighter.

‘DC’ has a 22-3 professional record along with having the elite status of being one in four ‘champ-champ’s in the UFC. Cormier first picked up the light heavyweight strap after beating Anthony Johnson and then knocked out Stipe Miocic. His only career losses have come to Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic.

Daniel Cormier has successfully transitioned into this role as a broadcaster and commentator. What’s more, he became a mainstay representative for MMA on ESPN and is lauded for the work he’s doing. Very few fighters have enjoyed the career trajectory that he’s had and he’s keen to continue pushing the boundaries.

Furthermore, he’s endeared himself to the MMA fans by truly sticking to his roots. He continues to coach High School wrestling and aims to impart his prowess as a two-time former Olympian. It’s unlikely that the sport will witness another all-rounded talent like Daniel Cormier and it’s safe to say that he’s cemented his place in history.
