The Love Island cast is being revealed today (June 21) and Hugo Hammond has been unveiled as its first ever disabled contestant.

The cricket player – who admitted he’s been ‘single for a while now’ – has been unveiled for the upcoming summer series, and he’s excited to be heading into the famous villa.

Hugo – who was born with clubfoot – also teaches secondary school PE, and he loves all things sports.

He joins the likes of Sharon Gaffka, fashion blogger Kaz Kamwi and water engineer Jake Cornish with the new series fast approaching.

There’s still time to get to know all the contestants before the show returns after taking a year off due to the pandemic.

So, here’s everything you need to know about Hugo.

The 24-year-old – who you can find on Instagram here – admitted he’s struggled to ‘get back into dating’ during the pandemic.

‘I’ve been single for a while now. With the current climate, it’s been really hard to get back into dating,’ he said.

‘I saw it as an opportunity to have an amazing fun summer and put myself back out there.’

Who does Hugo Hammond play cricket for?

Hugo has played for the England PD (Physical Disability) team, and he’s travelled all over the world for the sport.

‘I’ve been to Bangladesh, Dubai, I’ve been everywhere to play cricket,’ he said, while also noting how much he loves his job as a PE teacher.

‘I love all my sports. It’s great to be able to pass on that enthusiasm to be physically active to the younger generation and hopefully they feel the same about me teaching them.’

What is clubfoot?

Clubfoot is is where a baby is born with a foot or feet that turn in and under.

Early treatment and physiotherapy can correct it, and it usually isn’t painful.

It occurs in around 1 in 1,000 children, and is more common in boys.

It’s usually diagnosed in the womb, and is thought by doctors to be genetic as it runs in families.

Hugo has been open about the condition, revealing he ‘had lots of operations’ when he was a kid’.

When does Love Island 2021 start?

We’ve not got long to wait!
