Cara Delevingne has described her sexuality as a swinging pendulum, saying how she identifies frequently changes.

The 28-year-old, who has in the past dated stars like Ashley Benson and St Vincent, has previously labelled herself pansexual and bisexual.

Pansexuality differs from bisexuality because the former describe not recognising gender as part of their attraction.

During an appearance on a special Pride episode of podcast Make It Reign with Josh Smith, the model said: ‘The way I define myself still changes all the time, whether it’s pansexual, bisexual – I don’t really know. It’s like a pendulum swinging, but almost now I feel far more comfortable being bisexual than I used to.

‘I’ve kind of felt because I was lacking in my desire for women or love for women that I kind of just went one way and now it changes a lot more. I feel a lot more free and being more comfortable in it because before I was like, “oh, I’m gay”. That comes with self-shaming.

‘I will talk to myself so much worse than I would ever speak to any other human being in the entire world. No matter what, even someone who’s hurt me more than anyone, I will be so much nicer than that.’

Cara came out as sexually fluid in 2018 and the following year, she confirmed she was in a relationship with Pretty Little Liars star Ashley by sharing a video of them kissing in honour of Pride month.

Following her split from Ashley in 2020, Cara said that she is attracted to all genders, telling Variety: ‘I always will remain, I think, pansexual.

‘However one defines themselves, whether it’s “they” or “he” or “she”, I fall in love with the person — and that’s that. I’m attracted to the person.’

Speaking about Pride – which celebrates the LGBTQ+ community during June on the podcast, the Suicide Squad star said the month is about ‘choosing love’, saying: ‘That’s what I think Pride needs to be about. It’s just love, love for your partner, love for your neighbour, love for yourself more importantly, and loving people you don’t know either.

‘Like, it just doesn’t have to be something you talk about where it’s just about a relationship. It can just be about a stranger, you know, having empathy and compassion for all people.’

Cara – who as well as an actor and model is now a co-owner of sex toy company Lora DiCarlo – previously said that she struggled admitting who she was as she grew up in an old-fashioned, repressed English family’.

The star said: ‘I used the word “gay” to describe things which were s*** all the time: “That’s so f***ing gay of you, man.” Everyone used to talk about “Oh, my God, imagine going down on a woman.” I’d be like, “That’s disgusting.”

‘I think that came from the fact that I just didn’t want to admit who I was. I didn’t want to upset my family. I was deeply unhappy and depressed. When you don’t accept a part of yourself or love yourself, it’s like you’re not there, almost.’

She told Variety that she first told her father she was in love with a woman aged 18, when she had her heart broken, three years after suffering a breakdown.
