Game of Thrones’ Iron Throne lands in Leicester Square to mark 10th anniversary

Game of Thrones fans, it’s finally time for you to ascend the throne, as the Iron Throne has landed in London to mark 10th anniversary of the show’s UK launch.
Actor Isaac Hempstead Wright, who played Bran Stark in the fantasy series, unveiled it as part of Leicester Square’s Scenes in the Square statue trail.
The fight for the Iron Throne dominated all eight seasons of Game of Thrones, with Bran eventually becoming King of the Six Kingdoms.
It symbolises the difficulty of ruling as well as the cruelty required to gain control.
According to the novels, Aegon the Conqueror created the Throne out of the swords of his defeated enemies because he did not believe that a king should sit easily.
‘Couldn’t be happier to be back in London celebrating Game of Thrones! The show has been a huge part of people’s lives, so to see the Iron Throne in London’s iconic Leicester Square is fantastic,’ Isaac said at the event.
The unveiling of the monument coincides with the release of each season of Game of Thrones in 4K Ultra HD for the first time, marking the show’s 10th anniversary.
The statue will reside in this location for the next two years.
Visitors can also see Harry Potter, Bugs Bunny, Gene Kelly in Singin’ in the Rain, Mary Poppins, and Mr Bean as part of the trail.

‘Game of Thrones has been enthralling fans for 10 years and we are excited to continue to share its legacy with everyone as we look forward to the next chapter in the franchise.’
Filming for Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon is currently underway, and an HBO boss has promised it will blow fans away, teasing that the fantasy show is looking ‘spectacular’.
The upcoming fantasy series is set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones, at the height of the reign of the House Targaryen in Westeros.
Matt Smith stars as Prince Daemon Targaryen, the younger brother of the king and heir to the throne, while Emma D’Arcy plays the king’s first-born child Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Olivia Cooke is cast as Alicent Hightower, the daughter of the Hand of the King.
The first official photos from the production were recently released, featuring several key cast members in full costume, including Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower and Steve Toussaint as Lord Corlys Velaryon, otherwise known as ‘The Sea Snake’.
