Sean O’Malley has often been hailed as the next big superstar in the UFC. The bantamweight fighter has had an impressive start to his UFC career and is one of the most promising fighters in the UFC. Therefore, there have been many instances where people have compared him with UFC’s biggest superstar Conor McGregor.

Many people have often claimed that they believe ‘Sugar’ to be the next star of the magnitude of McGregor. O’Malley has also shared his views on the same. During an interview with Helen Yee, he said, “The fans know ‘The Sugar show’ is coming back. The fans are waiting for me to take over the UFC. It’s been a slow process.

“I’ve been in the UFC since I was 22 so about 4 years. Got a couple of viral knockouts. I think the fans are just waiting for me to take over, be that Conor-level star that I know I’m capable of being. They’re waiting and I’m grinding every day. They know that. I’m going to be the champ and take over.”

O’Malley himself is aware of the fact that people believe that he can become a global star like McGregor. And ‘Sugar’ has the confidence and belief in himself that he can achieve that. This confidence also reminds one of Conor McGregor, who is always very confident of himself.

A look at the MMA career’s of Sean O’Malley and Conor McGregor

Sean O’Malley has had a great start to his MMA career and has a professional MMA record of 13-1. The fighter has won 9 of his fights via KO/TKO and 1 via submission. The only loss of O’Malley’s career came against Marlon Vera at the UFC 252 via a 1st round TKO.

Similarly, Conor McGregor had a record of 12-2 after his first 14 MMA fights. ‘Notorious’ had won 11 of his fights via TKO and the other via submission. Comparing the early stages of both fighter’s careers we can clearly see that both fighters love to KO their opponents.

Apart from that, both fighters also come of Irish descent as O’Malley’s grandmother is Irish. Add to that both fighter’s tendency to speak their mind and be confident garners more talk of comparisons between them.

Conor McGregor is not just the most popular UFC fighter ever. He is amongst the popular and richest sports-person in the world. Therefore, even though ‘Sugar’ has shown that he has all qualities of being a superstar, he still has a long way to go to become the next Conor McGregor.
