***Warning: This article contains spoilers about the NCIS season 18 finale***

NCIS fans are going to be seeing a lot less of Mark Harmon in the upcoming season of the hit crime drama.

The season 18 finale of Naval Criminal Investigative Service seemingly saw his beloved character, Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs, killed off.

Now it’s been revealed that the series will still see the actor appear in the new season, but with significantly reduced screentime.

Here’s all we know about Harmon’s appearance in NCIS season 19.

Will Mark Harmon return to NCIS?

LOS ANGELES - OCTOBER 7: Blood and Treasure The discovery of two dead bodies in the forest leads the NCIS team into the wild world of modern-day treasure hunting. Following reports the actor is trying to exit his founding role in the show, TVLine has claimed the Harmon will only appear in a handful of episodes.

A source told the publication: ‘It’s going to be in the low single digits.’

Another source claimed the actor will make only ‘a few’ appearances throughout the season.

Leroy Gibbs has been a staple in the show since it first aired, so it’s going to take a lot to make the show work without him.

According to the publication, CBS is in talks with TV veteran Gary Cole to join the cast in a major role.

What happened to Leroy Gibbs in NCIS season 18?

As the finale came to an end, Gibbs was taking his newest boat for a spin which it suddenly exploded.

His seemingly lifeless body was seen drifting away just before the screen cut to black.

Is he dead? Is he just hurt? Was it all a bad dream?

It had been a season of drama for the character after Gibbs was suspended indefinitely from his role at NCIS after assaulting someone who abused dogs.

Time will tell what happens next.

NCIS airs on CBS in the US, and on FOX UK in the UK.
