Anthony Joshua Looking Past Oleksandr Usyk to Fight Tyson Fury in a Bout “Bigger Than Boxing”

The loops and turns of professional boxing never seizes to intrigue its devoted follower base. Not only the in-ring action is exhilarating, but what goes on behind the scenes is fascinating to many more.

It was only May that heavyweight champions Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury were set to face each other in a highly anticipated bout. Due to contract agreements not being met, lawsuits, and some other drama, the fight talk is dead in the water as of now.

Anthony Joshua will defend his titles Oleksandr Usyk most likely in September. Fury will take on Deontay Wilder in an epic trilogy set for July.

However, the WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight champ Joshua, continues to eye a fight against ‘The Gypsy King’. In a recent interview with SkySports, the Briton expressed his desire to test his boxing skills against the 6’9” WBC champion.

In an interview with SkySports, ‘AJ’ expressed his frustration with Fury’s camp and the fighter himself. “His team, they let the whole boxing world down. But I’ll still be here, still be ready, still ready to put on a show,” he said.

Joshua is aiming to make a quick turnaround from the Usyk fight and face Fury by the end of this year. The champ hopes that the world would be back to normal by then, adding more fanfare to the big fight.

“Let me get past Usyk first. But with or without Usyk in my life, I will fight Fury. Usyk isn’t the be-all and end-all. Usyk doesn’t determine the Fury fight. The fight has to happen. It’s a big fight, bigger than boxing, bigger than the belts.

“It will happen. After the Usyk fight, after I defend my belts and hopefully the world is back to normal. The fight will be bigger, better than what it would have been,” he says.

Going into the two seemingly biggest fights of his career, ‘AJ’ seems to be supremely confident of his abilities to come through and be the unified heavyweight champ soon. “I am 100 percent sure that I will fight him and win. You’ve got to ask him the same question,” the champ asserts.

Further in the interview, Joshua shared his frustration with how the talks with Fury played out. “We did everything. During a global pandemic, the toughest time to organize a fight like that, we managed to have 20,000 fans available, a site fee, the media-ready.

“My name was on the contract, I was in training. Then boom, they canceled. I stay ready to fight them all because I’m a throwback fighter.
