“Cracking Is Never a Good Sign”: Dominic Thiem Raises Doubts Over Wimbledon Championships 2021
The 2021 season is not yet ready to accept Austrian World No.5, Dominic Thiem. Sadly, after backing up his break to lead 5-2 in the opening set at ATP 250 Mallorca, he picked up a wrist injury on a forehand, forcing him to pull out from the tournament.
Notably, it was the first appearance for the 27-year-old on a grass court after Wimbledon 2019. And although he was excited to compete and prepare for the Championships, fate got the better of him.
Later on, Alex Stober, physio of Thiem, provided an injury update. Has the Wimbledon Championships become doubtful for the Austrian ace?

There is still no information on the extent of the injury. However, Stober confirmed that Thiem picked up a wrist injury, which is maybe just a twist. “At the moment, we can only guess,” the physio said. “He has suffered a wrist injury, some kind of twisting.”

Looking back at the scene, the Austrian did not seem okay after hurting himself on the forehand. Instead, he appeared in pain as he immediately called the trainer while holding his injured right wrist. For this, Stober revealed that there is a worry about cracking the wrist, which is undesirable.
He said, “Cracking is never a good sign. Let’s hope it was just a twist in the wrist, with the carpal bone perhaps a slight capsule injury.”
A very unfortunate ending

Soon, an MRI will disclose good or harsh news for the reigning US Open champion. Even then, with the Championships starting in less than a week, it is not the start Dominic must have had in mind.

Thiem’s roller-coaster 2021 season so far
The 27-year-old received his first blow at the Australian Open fourth round, where he broke down mentally and physically. Following that, he saw disappointing losses one after the other, feeding doubts to his mind.
Consequently, Thiem took a short break and returned for the French Open. But even after having a satisfying performance in tune-ups, he suffered a first-round exit at Roland-Garros.
Surprisingly, the Austrian took it well and prepared himself for the grass season. Again, Thiem’s spirits are in question as he awaits the results of his injury.
Hopefully, it is a minor glitch on Thiem’s way back to the top. Fans also are excited to see him create sizable results at the Championships this year. Get well soon, Domi!
