Cyberpunk 2077 refund policy ends next month for Xbox consoles
The special refund policy for Cyberpunk 2077 on Xbox will run out in early July, as the game’s status returns to normal on PlayStation too.
With the news that Cyberpunk 2077 has returned to the PlayStation Store it’s no surprise to find that Microsoft is also normalising its treatment of the game, with its unique refund policy coming to an end on July 6.
Following the outcry over the state of the game at launch, Microsoft instituted a special refund policy to cover everyone that bought Cyberpunk 2077 from their store, with the offer of a full refund if they wanted it. From July though, the game will be treated like any other.
‘The team at CD Projekt Red continues to work hard to improve the experience of Cyberpunk 2077 for Xbox players and has made a number of updates’, reads a message on Microsoft’s refund policy page.
‘Given these updates, Microsoft will be returning to our standard digital game refund policy for Cyberpunk 2077 on July 6 for both new and existing purchases.’
Although Microsoft had clear warnings about the state of the game on its online stores it never removed it from sale, as was the case on the PlayStation Store.
Sony’s extreme reaction was never fully explained but it was believed they were angry at CD Projekt Red for promising refunds without first checking with them.
Both the Xbox and PlayStation stores will continue to contain warnings about the state of the game but otherwise there are no restrictions about buying it – and, from July, no extra safety net for customers.
Cyberpunk 2077 continues to release new updates but the next big milestone for the game is the dedicated next gen versions, which have barely been mentioned so far, considering the other problems.
The Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 versions are still meant to be coming out this year, but CD Projekt Red still hasn’t given any indication of exactly when.
