Ex-Red Bull Driver Reveals Sebastian Vettel Holds a Grudge Against Him After Stinging Criticism

Although his season didn’t start well, it seems Sebastian Vettel is having a renaissance in Aston Martin. After he didn’t score points in the first four races, Vettel took an impressive P5 in Monaco and immediately followed it up with a P2 finish in Baku, giving him his first podium with his new team.

Although the German finished P9 in Le Castellet this Sunday, the German looks a more composed driver than before. Despite that, former Red Bull driver David Coulthard believes he isn’t on speaking terms with Vettel anymore.

David Coulthard believes Sebastian Vettel sees his views differently

Vettel endured one of his most difficult F1 seasons with Ferrari last year. Across 17 races, the German only garnered 33 points, while facing endless criticism for his performances. Although many expected a change in fortunes when he decided to move to Aston Martin, it didn’t pan out that way in the first four races.

However, the 33-year-old’s resurgence in Monaco and Baku spoke volumes of his talent. The four-time world champion garnered 30 points in the last three races, 14 more than his last season with Ferrari at the same stage.

Before this resurgence however, Coulthard made comments about Vettel being past his prime. The Briton believes those comments made the German stop talking to him. He said, “Sebastian hardly speaks to me anymore because I said that he is only a shadow of himself.” (Quotes translated from Google)

The 50-year-old clarified his stance on Vettel while admitting he appreciated his performances in Monaco and Baku. “I loved that he finished on the podium in Baku. His performance in France was good too,” said Coulthard.

“But in other races, be it in the Ferrari or Aston Martin, he wasn’t the Sebastian I knew. But I was I understand that he sees it differently. I was also a racing driver. You see someone who says something negative about you as an enemy. I understand that.”

Vettel reveals his goal in Austria this weekend

With the German continuing his scoring streak in Le Castellet, he hopes to continue this run of form in Spielberg this weekend. Vettel said, “The goal is to maintain our consistency and to get back into the points in Austria.”

He also believes the Red Bull Ring offers the potential for a great race due to the length of the track. “It’s a great track because it’s short, but with lots of fast and difficult corners. Adding one lap feels great,” said Vettel.

With the midfield battle intensifying, Vettel will look to continue Aston Martin’s challenge in the Styrian mountains. Can the German break into the Top 10 once again?
