“Going To Be Very Dangerous”: Former Olympic Medalist Is Skeptical About Roger Federer’s Form Moving Into Wimbledon Championships 2021

Swiss tennis ace Roger Federer returned to action after more than a year on Tour. During that period, he suffered an injury and had to undergo two knee surgeries in order to get back on the tennis courts. However, he has not been performing to the best of his abilities.

Recently, former Davis Cup winner Alex Corretja spoke about Roger Federer’s current dip in form. As compared to previous years, the Swiss star has not been in the best possible shape. He featured in the grass-court event in Halle but crashed out in the second round. His performance below standards is unusual.

The 47-year-old stated, “I’m just worried he doesn’t feel 100 percent on his knee because it’s normal that his movements are still not the best. Probably he needs some more time. Is it going to be enough to be perfect for Wimbledon? Well, he needs a very, very good first week to get the rhythm that he needs to become good the second week and to perform well.”

Roger Federer can be a threat if the first test is cleared

Alex analyzed and felt that if Federer can make it through the first week, he can be a real threat once the tournament progresses. However, seeing his current form, the Spaniard is doubtful of the Swiss superstar’s chances with little time to prepare.

The former Olympic medalist further added, “I think if he gets the rhythm that he needs, he’s going to be very dangerous but there are many players that right now can hurt him, when before it was maybe only two or three.”

Reflecting back on Federer’s season over recent weeks, he was seen at the French Open and got through tough battles initially. However, he pulled out of the tournament after the third round because he was feeling the strain physically and did not wish to jeopardize it further.

However, when it comes to grass, the Swiss ace feels positive and comfortable. Going by history, Federer has been thoroughly successful on the grass-court events. It will be interesting to see how the Basel-born player performs in South West 19, London.
