‘Kids Still Know Who [Bruce Lee] Is Today!’- Dana White Reflects on the Impact of MMA

Dana White spoke to Arthur Kade from BroBible and went over the upcoming UFC 264 pay-per-view event. The long-time boss of the UFC had plenty of thoughts to share throughout the 30-minute long interview. Chiefly, he also went over the company’s growth through the pandemic and his relationship with Conor McGregor.

A key takeaway from White’s sit-down was the way he expanded on how fighting had a global impact. Dana White explained that while other sports had their place of importance, nothing captured people’s attention quite like fighting. He doubled down on his point by explaining how combatants of yesteryear like Muhammad Ali and Bruce Lee were still revered till today.

“If you look at interviews of me 15 years ago, I say that this is going to be the biggest sport in the world and I believed that this thing would work, everywhere. When you think about the NFL, the NFL is massive in the United States, there’s nothing bigger. Soccer is big in other countries, Cricket is big in some places, Rugby. NFL doesn’t work over there and those sports don’t work over here. The only thing that works everywhere is fighting.”

“If you think about the most famous athletes that have ever walked the face of the earth, Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, those guys are known everywhere. Bruce Lee died in the early 70’s, kids still know who he is today. Because as human beings, we are fascinated by who the toughest guy in the world is.”

The growth of the UFC: Pushing the boundaries

It’s hard to deny that the UFC hasn’t been the leading game in town for a meaningful period of time. 2020 turned out to be one of the best years for the organization by virtue of their goal to keep expanding.
