Phillip Schofield found himself in an extremely peculiar situation on This Morning when he put on a gadget resembling a ‘gimp mask’.

On Wednesday’s edition of This Morning, Phillip and Holly Willoughby welcomed Sarah Jossel onto the show to deliver a rundown of the ‘must-have summer beauty gadgets’.

While several This Morning viewers couldn’t believe the prices of some of the gadgets, including a mirror that cost nearly £300 and a light therapy device which came to £1,895, one of the most memorable parts of the segment was when Phillip tried on an electrical face mask from FaceGym.

The face mask, which costs £415, is supposed to provide users with a ‘facial workout’… however, it is quite a sight to behold.

As Sarah started talking about the product, Phillip felt the material, exclaiming: ‘Oh god, it’s rubber!’

He then – with immense difficulty – put it on, tying it up at the back while struggling to talk.

While Sarah was busy explaining how the gadget works, speaking about how it emits ‘little microcurrents’ after users press a button, Holly laughed at Phillip as he tried to get his words out.

‘I can’t open my mouth,’ he appeared to say, with the mask covering the lower half of his face except for his mouth.

Holly gleefully suggested that Phillip should keep the mask on for the rest of the show.

Nonetheless, Phillip was fortunately able to get the constricting mask off, with one person tweeting that the image of him wearing it was ‘peak 2021’.

While the purpose of the electric mask if for beauty facials, some viewers noted that it bore a resemblance to a ‘gimp mask’, a piece of clothing that is sometimes worn in sexual scenarios.

During a recent interview, Phillip and Holly revealed that they are ‘on the brink of tears all the time’ while presenting This Morning.

Speaking to The Sunday Mirror, Phillip said: ‘When a Spin to Win winner says, “Oh my God, you’ve been amazing”, “I’ve entered since the start”, that kind of thing – you’ve got to be quite careful because I think we’re all on the edge, you could cry at the drop of a hat.

‘It’s so hard sometimes and you think, “You have to centre yourself”.

‘We are all on the brink of tears all the time, so it doesn’t take much to push.’

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
