Shaun Ryder has recalled the time Bez turned down Julia Roberts during her Pretty Woman heyday… leaving Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield in a state of disbelief.

On Wednesday’s edition of This Morning, Happy Mondays’ singer Shaun appeared in the ITV studio to catch up with Holly and Phillip.

In addition to opening up about his ADHD diagnosis, Shaun, 58, also recalled a night out he went on with Happy Mondays percussionist and dancer Mark ‘Bez’ Berry when they were in America decades ago.

Shaun explained that they were in LA when Pretty Woman had ‘only just come out’, having been released in 1990, so the film’s star, Julia, ‘wasn’t the Julia Roberts who everyone knows now’.

They were in a club called the Viper Room when Bez came over and said: ‘You heard of Julia Jogerts?’ Shaun recollected.

According to the Celebrity Gogglebox star, Bez then said: ‘She’s just asked me to go to her place.’

‘And he didn’t have a clue who she was, but she sent her bodyguard over, Evil. Her bodyguard’s name was something like Evil,’ Shaun said.

Having been chatting with Julia’s bodyguard, Bez didn’t go back to the Hollywood icon’s place in the end ‘cause he had about four other girls on the go in the club anyway’, Shaun admitted.

‘So he turned down Julia Roberts?’ Holly asked in amazement.

Phillip, who was similarly stunned by the anecdote, asked Shaun how Bez feels about the situation now.

‘It’s Bez innit, it doesn’t really bother him,’ Shaun responded while laughing.

In May, Shaun opened up about being diagnosed with ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), which he only found out he had last year.

Shaun was diagnosed with ADHD after two of his daughters, aged 12 and 30, were also diagnosed with the condition.

Speaking to PA news agency, he said: ‘‘The problem stems from the ADHD. The nutty behaviour. You have got all this energy going and you can’t focus on anything.’

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
