Too Hot To Handle’s Chloe Veitch reveals negative impact of the show on her love life

Too Hot To Handle's Chloe Veitch says going on show hurt her dating life: 'You can't tell who's genuine'

Clacton-based model Chloe Veitch, 22, knows what it takes to succeed on reality TV.

She was a joint winner of Netflix’s first season of Too Hot To Handle, the dating show where having sex means the jackpot prize drops, and last month finished runner-up on The Circle (USA).

So, Chloe…

Did you know what you were getting into with Too Hot To Handle?

I had no idea. I was doing some modelling and I met a TV producer and they said ‘why don’t you try for this new show?’

I just thought it was a dating show, it might be fun – I had no idea what to expect at all.

What impact did being on the show have on your life?

Well before I had about 1,500 followers on Instagram and then now, after Too Hot To Handle and The Circle, it’s up to 1.6 million.

But I still live at home in Clacton so that keeps me grounded. It probably helped that it was lockdown, so it wasn’t like I was in the limelight.

Do you think people can really find love on shows like Too Hot To Handle or Love Island? I thought you and fellow Brit David would have made a cute couple!

Oh yeah, I think so. I was hoping it would for me – but it just didn’t work out.

Do you think enough is done to make sure people’s mental health is protected on shows like this?

On Too Hot To Handle all the contestants had to go through a lot of personality screening to make sure that they would be OK for it and I was really happy that I passed that.

There was always someone you could talk to if you felt a bit down but I was fine – all I really wanted to do was phone my mum to tell her what was going on.

You’re on a reality show – but do you watch them?

Oh yeah I love Love Island, it’s my favourite show and I always watch it with my mum.

I follow all of them on social media – we love all the drama of it, it’s the one show where you connect with all your mates to talk about it.

Ultimate Love Islanders?

Chris and Kem, love them. And Dani Dyer, she’s a gem.

You’re single at the moment. So when it comes down to it has being on a dating show helped or hindered your love life?

Before I went on I definitely thought it would help it. But now I have to say it’s hindered it – it can be really hard to know if someone is really genuine or if they’re dating you because they’ve seen you on a show.

And all my exes came crawling out of the woodwork once I was on the show. So it really puts barriers up.

Look on the bright side – if someone breaks down those barriers then it probably means they’re The One.

You’re right. Everything happens for a reason.

Any words of advice for people aiming at a reality TV/influencer career?

Just be yourself. That’s what’s worked for me!

Episodes one to four of Too Hot To Handle is on Netflix from today (June 23) with the climactic final five episodes following a week later.
