Dominic Thiem Reportedly Set To Miss Wimbledon Championships 2021 Due to Wrist Injury

After a grueling clay season that ended in disappointment, Austrian Dominic Thiem was all set to avenge himself on grass. And to ensure that he made the transition to grass smoothly, he added the Mallorca Open to his calendar. However, all his plans hit a serious roadblock in his first match, as he injured his wrist, which has put his Wimbledon participation in doubt.

Earlier, the 27-year-old ran straight to the hospital for an MRI after pulling out from his opening match against Adrian Mannarino. Notably, he was leading 5-2 in the first set when he hit a forehand using his wrist and injured it.

Shortly after, the Austrian came forward and explained that he would travel to Barcelona for clarity on his injury.

“The results weren’t that clear, and I have decided to go to Barcelona to check with a specialist. I hope I can get the results and a clear diagnosis in the next days,” Thiem wrote on Twitter.

Injury update on Dominic Thiem ahead of Wimbledon Championships 2021

Since the Championships begin in less than a week, it might be a big blow for the Austrian. What has been a nightmarish season for him would turn even darker.

However, there is still hope as the final word has not come from Thiem. Undoubtedly, a lot of thought, discussion, and analysis would go into his next decision.

Thiem, who was finally getting back into the groove, might have to start from scratch again. Moreover, a fresh wound ahead of the Championships is never a healthy sign.

But as far as athletes are concerned, their recovery period is faster than others. Thus, Thiem might get over this episode quickly.

Hopefully, fans will see the Austrian dynamite wreaking havoc at the Championships the subsequent week. If Thiem does, he would inarguably become one of the contenders for the title. Do you think Thiem will participate at Wimbledon?
