There’s a familiar face on tonight’s episode of Dragons’ Den, with Theo Paphitis stepping in to replace Peter Jones on the BBC show.

The former Dragon, who quit the show in 2012, returned to help out his friend after Peter was unable to record the show for a time.

Theo has already made a surprise appearance earlier this year, delighting viewers after returning.

Businessman Theo appeared on Dragons’ Den from 2005 to 2012. He previously returned to the programme after making a brief appearance in 2019 to stand in for Touker Suleyman.

The current line-up consists of Peter, Deborah Meaden, Touker, Tej Lalvani, and Sara Davies, with Theo not due to return permanently.

But why is Theo stepping in to replace Peter on the BBC show tonight? Here’s everything you need to know.

Why is Theo Paphitis filling in for Peter Jones on Dragons’ Den?

Theo is appearing on Dragons’ Den temporarily after Peter was forced to self-isolate due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Peter tweeted about the news earlier this year, writing: ‘Since Dragons’ Den began 16 years ago I haven’t missed a single day’s filming however during the last series I had to self-isolate.

‘When discussing with @BBCOne who could stand in for me I chose @TheoPaphitis as he is one of the great past Dragon.’

Theo responded: ‘Thank you @dragonjones ! It was an absolute blast being back.’

Introducing the returning Theo earlier in the series, host Evan Davis explained: ‘This week there’s a new but very familiar face in one of the chairs, because even Dragons aren’t immune to the effects of the pandemic.

‘With Peter Jones having to self-isolate, high street heavyweight Theo Paphitis has stepped in to take his place.’

Dragons’ Den airs Thursdays at 8pm on BBC One.
